If frothy local brews, Oompah dancing, and bratwurst-tasting tickle your fancy, you need to attend the Encinitas Oktoberfest this year! There’s no better way to celebrate the arrival of fall in Southern California. Read on to learn all about this festive event, then be sure to access our complimentary Destination Guide to Encinitas for even more local insight! This resource is packed with all of our best eating, drinking, and relaxing recommendations.

Why You Need to Attend the Encinitas Oktoberfest This Year

For over 24 years, the Encinitas Oktoberfest has brought German culture to North County San Diego. If you’re looking for a fun, festive way to welcome fall to the region, there’s no better event to attend! The best part? All of the attractions are free to attend! You will, however, want to prepare in advance for crowds. This year’s (2019) festival takes place on September 29 between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Here’s why you need to add it to your fall itinerary this year!

Bavarian Food and Beverage

Whether you’re most excited for authentic German bratwurst, Bavarian beers, or California wine, your taste buds won’t be disappointed! If you’re a beer aficionado, expect to try all manner of Hefeweizens, Märzens, and Lagers in true German style. There will also be a “Keepin’ it Local” beer garden featuring suds from Encinitas area breweries (like Saint Archer, Firestone Walker, and Papa Merce’s). If sampling sausage isn’t your cup of tea, there will be other types of food in the vendor area.

Festive Fun for the Whole Family

Food is just the beginning of the Oktoberfest fun—there will be plenty of entertainment, too! Hammerstein Musik Bavaria will provide upbeat Oompah tunes while the Gemütlichkeit Alpine Dancers bring traditional German dance to the streets of Encinitas. There will also be plenty of arts and crafts vendors!

Easy Transportation

The Oktoberfest festivities take place just a few miles away from The Inn at Moonlight Beach, which makes transportation easy! We recommend taking a ride-hailing service like Uber for the 10-minute drive (especially if you plan on drinking). Once you’re at the parking lot (at Flora Vista Elementary School), you can take the free shuttle service to the event.
